《超光速粒子：边缘》是一款飞行射击游戏。在游戏中玩家将扮演一个唯利是图的浪子Jake，为了金钱而生，为了金钱而战。为了钱，你可以帮助Bora人抗击Galactic的暴政，也可以助纣为虐替Galactic镇压Bora人。每一方都有15到20个任务需要你完成，不仅每一个任务都不同，所有的任务都是非线性的，你可以任意决定每个任务的完成次序。任务的种类不仅仅是单一的击落敌人的战机，还包括了护航、巡逻、传递情报、穿越某一地区等。
